“Conquer the mental challenges of weight loss” is the topic of the January Take Note Flagstaff Lecture Series, sponsored by Flagstaff Medical Center. The Tuesday, Jan. 21 lecture features clinical psychologist John Martin, Ph.D. The free presentation is 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the East Flagstaff Community Library, 3000 N. As a clinical psychologist at FMC’s Bariatric Surgical Weight Loss Center, Dr. Martin offers simple, proven strategies to help make life changes stick. FMC’s Bariatric Surgical Weight Loss Center is the only bariatric surgical program in Northern Arizona. The comprehensive program offers an outpatient clinic that supports the clinical and educational needs of patients in preparation for surgery including weight management, nutrition and exercise programs; counseling; pre- and post-surgery medical appointments; and ongoing support groups for post-surgery patients. The surgical aspect of the program includes laparoscopic gastric bypass, banding and sleeve procedures, based on the needs of the patient. Since opening in 2004, more than 1,000 life-changing surgeries have been performed.
