Diabetes Alert Day March 27: Get screened for diabetes
In an effort to bring awareness about the symptoms and risks associated with diabetes, the community is invited to attend the Flagstaff Diabetes Alert Day. The event is designed to encourage Americans to get informed about the risks of diabetes and get screened for the disease.
This free, American Diabetes Association one-day nationally recognized event is 3 – 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 27 at the Flagstaff YMCA, 1101 N. Turquoise Dr. The event is sponsored by Diabetes Together – a collaboration between Flagstaff Medical Center, North Country HealthCare and Native Americans for Community Action. Additional sponsors include Northern Arizona University, Coconino County Public Health Services District and the Flagstaff YMCA.
Participants can receive a diabetes risk test, diabetes screenings by certified diabetes educators, blood sugar evaluations, oral and foot checks, blood pressure checks, retinal scans, and shoe and footwear evaluations. Additionally, there will be a cooking demonstration and information on local support groups and programs geared toward anyone affected by diabetes including those living with diabetes and pre-diabetes, family members and friends, and those wanting to learn more about diabetes.
