Christopher J. Bavasi has been elected as chairman of the Flagstaff Medical Center Board of Directors. Bavasi, who is executive director of the Office of Navajo and Hopi Indian Relocation Commission, has served on the FMC board since 2001 and on the Northern Arizona Healthcare Board of Directors since 2003.
During his tenure on the FMC Board, Bavasi has served on several committees including finance, governance, physician recruitment and the FMC Foundation. Additionally, Bavasi serves on the Board of Directors for The Peaks Senior Living Community, which is a partnership with NAH.
As a Flagstaff resident for more than 40 years and a graduate of Northern Arizona University, Bavasi has demonstrated extensive experience, commitment and leadership in the greater Flagstaff community. Bavasi served as the mayor of Flagstaff from 1988 to 2000, after being elected to the Flagstaff City Council in 1984. Bavasi has worked as an officer with the City of Flagstaff Police Department and served as the director of the Northern Arizona Council of Governments.
Joining the FMC Board is Bert McKinnon, M.D. Since 1999, Dr. McKinnon served as chairman of the NAH Board of Directors. Dr. McKinnon recently retired as an orthopedic surgeon, having practiced in Flagstaff for more than 25 years.
