Feb. 19, 2009 Flagstaff Medical Center welcomes Barbara Dember, M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E., vice president of Professional Services. Dember’s role will include executive oversight of FMC’s Surgical Services, Trauma and Emergency Services, Imaging, Laboratory, Children’s Health Center; Care Coordination and Disease Management; Bariatric Surgical Weight Loss Center and the Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare.
Dember brings more than 20 years of senior management experience in hospital and healthcare operations including an extensive background in developing and growing heart and vascular, neurosciences, oncology and surgical programs; establishing a center of medical education and research; and implementing physician recruitment, relations and referral market development programs.

Prior to joining FMC, Dember served as the regional vice president of Clinical Institutes at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Ore. Before working at Sacred Heart Medical Center, Dember served as the regional vice president of Business Development and Cardiovascular Operations at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, Wash. As an executive of St. Joseph’s Hospital, she established an open heart program which received a Solucient Top 100 and HealthGradesTM 5-star award.
During her career, Dember has been in a number of roles that include vice president of Business Development and Joint Ventures, Planning and Finance manager at Pima Health System in Tucson, and regional manager for Government Programs at Cigna Healthcare of Arizona. Dember is a native Arizonan from Tucson and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona Eller College of Business.
