Fit Kids of Arizona receives donation from Senator McCain

Oct. 20, 2009

Thanks to a $2,000 donation to Northern Arizona Healthcare’s Fit Kids of Arizona program from Senator John McCain, children who struggle with weight concerns will have more ways to have fun while increasing their activity levels. Fit Kids provides children and their families the tools and support for conquering childhood obesity. The donation will provide additional funds to provide participants sports items that encourage outdoor activities and exercise.

Fit Kids of Arizona is a clinical program that helps children and their families learn to maintain happy, healthy lifestyles while reducing the problems and illnesses associated with excess weight. The Fit Kids team focuses on assessing and treating all of the possible causes of excess body weight in children including medical examinations, physical activity counseling, nutrition counseling and behavioral change. Since January, Fit Kids at FMC has had more than 260 children referred to the program. A second program opened in September at Verde Valley Medical Center in Cottonwood; 35 children have been referred to the Verde Valley program

Senator John McCain’s office made the donation in an effort to support programs that are aimed at curbing the rate of childhood obesity. Fit Kids of Northern Arizona was just one of several organizations to receive a donation from Senator McCain’s campaign committee. The donation was in accordance with federal regulations relating to uncleared contribution refunds to a federal candidate campaign committee, John McCain 2008.
