Statistics show that only 32 percent of Americans aged 65 or over participate in regular exercise to stay healthy. To help, Flagstaff Medical Center is a proud sponsor of the City of Flagstaff’s 2009 Senior Health and Fitness Day Fair, motivating senior citizens to find ways to get or stay healthy.
This year’s event is from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 27 at the Flagstaff Aquaplex.
Flagstaff Medical Center will be hosting seven educational booths, including Audiology Services, Trauma Services, Cancer Centers of NAH, FMC Spine and Joint Surgery Center, NAH Homecare and Hospice, the Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona and Nutrition Services. Each booth will include information for seniors, educating them on numerous health topics and tips to live healthy lifestyles.
This year’s keynote speaker is Steven Peterson, M.D., cardiothoracic surgeon. Dr. Peterson is a physician with the Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona and is the medical director of Cardiovascular Surgery at Flagstaff Medical Center. He specializes in off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. Dr. Peterson will be educating the community on the advancements of open heart surgeries.
