FMC's Trauma and Emergency departments welcome new directors

Sept. 27, 2010

Bill Ashland, R.N., recently was named director of Flagstaff Medical Center’s Trauma Services. Ashland has more than 25 years of trauma/nursing experience. Since joining FMC in 1998, Ashland worked as a certified flight nurse with Guardian Air, a division of Northern Arizona Healthcare, before serving as the manager of the Trauma Program for several years. Prior to joining FMC, Ashland was a trauma intensive care nurse and a registered respiratory therapist in Phoenix.

In 2005, Ashland won the Arizona State Emergency Nurses Association Nurse of the Year Award. The award was received based on his work with the Emergency Nurses Association, an association of professional nurses working toward advancements in emergency medicine; Emergency Nurses Cancel Alcohol Related Emergencies, a program teaching high school students the effects of drinking and driving; Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses, a program teaching nurses to work side-by-side with physicians in trauma care; and for involvement with other statewide trauma services programs.

FMC is one of eight state-designated Level 1 Trauma Centers and the only trauma center north of Phoenix. FMC was first named a Level 1 Trauma Center in 2005.  More than 1,500 trauma patients are cared for at FMC each year.

Lindy Turley, R.N., B.S.N., C.E.N., recently was named director of FMC’s Emergency Services. Turley joined FMC in 2003, working as a staff nurse. Since that time she has advanced in managerial roles in Emergency Services including charge nurse, clinical manager and interim director.
