FMC’s Women and Infants’ Center receives Lactation Care Award

Feb. 7, 2011

Flagstaff Medical Center’s Women and Infants’ Center was recognized for providing excellent care and support to new mothers by employing certified lactation consultants. The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and the International Lactation Consultant Association presented the Lactation Care Award to FMC in recognition of the support resources and expert staff available to nursing mothers and their partners. Less than 200 hospitals in the U.S. are IBCLC Care Award Facilities.

“We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to our patients,” said Cindy Beckett, Ph.D., R.N.C., L.C.C.E., director of Pediatrics/Perinatal Services. “The Women and Infants’ Center is dedicated to promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding.”

Flagstaff Medical Center’s Women and Infants’ Center offers a full spectrum of services to meet the specific needs of mothers, families and babies. Some of the special features of the facility are a Breastfeeding Center, a state-of-the-art Special Care Nursery and childbirth and education classes. The Breastfeeding Center promotes breastfeeding through the use of lactation consultants, educational classes and offering a wide variety of supplies that make breastfeeding an enjoyable and successful experience for new mothers.
