A Special Day for Special Kids picnic June 11

May 11, 2011

Any child who spent time in any intensive care nursery at birth, or any child who is a Children’s Rehabilitative Services client, along with immediate family, are invited to a free picnic in the child’s honor Saturday, June 11. A Special Day for Special Kids Picnic will be held at Marshall Elementary School, 850 N. Bonito St., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The picnic recognizes that some newborn babies require a little extra special care when they are born. Flagstaff Medical Center’s Special Care Nursery provides these babies with sensitive care and continuing support for critically ill newborn infants. Additionally, some children are born with chronic and disabling conditions that require special care throughout their lifetime. FMC’s Children’s Rehabilitative Services (CRS) provides specialty medical care for these children so they can develop to their fullest potential.

This very special event also recognizes FMC’s Special Care Nursery and Children’s Rehabilitative Services staff members and gives them the opportunity to see how some of their patients have grown from year to year.

Activities will feature bounce houses, games, prizes, face-painting and more. The Flagstaff Fire Department’s ladder truck and Guardian Medical Transport’s monster ambulance will be there as well. Picnic food, activities and contests are free to any child who has spent time in any special care nursery or is a CRS client, as well as their brothers, sisters and parents.

For more information about the picnic, please call 928 773-2080.
