FMC OB nurse spearheads FMC's Perinatal Palliative Care program - turning her tragedy into something to help other women. Lynn Harris, who has been an OB nurse at FMC for six years.
Harris, who already has a healthy 5 1/2-year-old son, Will, knew she would be adding a girl to the family. She went in for an ultrasound at her doctor's office. At 20 weeks pregnant, it was a normal check-up, an anatomy scan of the baby.
"I knew something was wrong during the ultrasound," Harris said. "The technician didn't say anything at all. She went to get a doctor. It took forever."
Harris was told her baby girl had a "random and rare" congenital disorder -- amniotic band syndrome. And in her case, the baby would not live long outside the womb.
