Alice Gagnaire, R.N., B.S.N., M.H.S.A., senior vice president, is retiring after more than 35 years with Flagstaff Medical Center.
Gagnaire has lived in Flagstaff since 1973 when she joined FMC’s staff as a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. In her career at FMC, she has been a unit supervisor, director of Nursing Support Services, associate administrator of Nursing Services, vice president of Patient Care Services, and most recently senior vice president. She has overseen the recent development of the FMC Cardiovascular and Bariatric Surgery programs.
“It has been such an honor to work at FMC with the hospital, staff and medical staff,” Gagnaire said. “The hospital has grown so much over the years and is an integral part of our community, I have enjoyed being part of an organization that is here to serve the patients and their families.”
Gagnaire has been an active member of the Flagstaff community having served as the president of North Country HealthCare, the American Cancer Society and the Community Caregiving Coalition. She was a longtime member of Soroptimist International of Flagstaff, has been an Athena Award nominee, and was named the 1999 Woman of Distinction by Soroptimists. Gagnaire served two years as the president of the Arizona State Board of Nursing and was named Employer of the Year by the Arizona Nurses Association in 1995.
On Dec. 3, 2008, Gagnairae was honored by FMC employees by being selected to flip the switch that turned on more than 300,000 at the annual FMC Family Holiday Lighting event at the hospital. Additionally, in recognition of Gagnaire’s years of service and dedication to the nursing profession, Northern Arizona Healthcare Education named its most comprehensive skills and education lab for Gagnaire – The Alice Gagnaire Comprehensive Skills Lab.
