Low-cost sports physicals and fitness fair for students – July 28
Healthcare providers will conduct sports physicals for middle and high school student athletes who are required to fulfill an annual pre-participation physical evaluation for the 2012- 2013 school year. There is a $10 charge for each physical. All proceeds will be donated to community athletic organizations.
The Sports Physicals and Fitness Health Fair is 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Flagstaff Bone and Joint, 77 W. Forest Ave., # 301 (located in the Physicians and Surgeons Office Building attached to the north end of FMC). For more information, contact Vicky Miller at 928 214-2869.

While athletes and their parents wait for their physical they will be able to participate in “infotainment” at the Fitness Health Fair. Information is aimed at increasing health awareness through materials, demonstrations and education to young athletes and parents, and includes concussion care information and baseline testing sign ups, vaccination counseling and proper mouth guard protection.
The Concussion Care Program focuses on the importance of seeking care when a concussion is suspected. It is recommended that all athletes in a high-impact sport such as football, cheer, rugby, soccer, hockey and wrestling, complete the ImPACT baseline test that can be used to compare post-injury test results to if the athlete experiences a concussion. Athletes can sign up for baseline testing to take place Saturday, Aug 4.
Vaccination counseling allows participants to check immunizations on the state database, update immunization care, provides information on childhood and adolescent immunizations, and assists with scheduling vaccination appointments if needs. (Bring your immunization card.)
Fit Kids of Arizona staff also will be onsite to educate families about healthy living and raising awareness on reducing child obesity in Arizona and will be offering activities for all ages.
Participants also can learn about the importance of mouth guards, skin care and protection, and sports nutrition.
