Breast Cancer 101: Causes, detection, diagnosis and treatment is the topic of the October Take Note Flagstaff Lecture Series, sponsored by Flagstaff Medical Center. The Tuesday, Oct. 16 lecture features medical oncologist Peter Mathern, M.D., Arizona Oncology. The free presentation is 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the East Flagstaff Community Library, 3000 N. Dr. Mathern will discuss the basics of breast cancer including causes and risk factors, detection, diagnosis and treatment options as well as some the latest advancements in medical oncology (chemotherapy and medication treatments). There will be time for questions and answers. Board-certified in medical oncology and hematology, Dr. Mathern specializes in cancer consultation, chemotherapy and medication therapy.
