FMC offers weight management program and obesity surgery

Sept. 1, 2008

More than two-thirds of the American population is overweight, and that number rises each year. More than 23 million Americans are considered to be morbidly obese - their target body weight is exceeded by at least 100 pounds. Many of these people not only are overweight, but face all the complications that come with this diagnosis: illnesses including diabetes, high blood pressure and pulmonary problems.

FMC's weight loss and obesity surgery program includes help for patients with nutrition, diet and exercise; psychological counseling and support groups; and informational sessions for those interested in surgery and weight loss or bariatric surgery options. FMC offers both the gastric bypass and laparoscopic banding procedures. FMC is the only hospital north of Phoenix offering the surgery.

Patients must meet certain criteria to be considered candidates for the surgical procedures.A bariatric surgery information session also will be held the second Tuesday of every month. For more information on information sessions, weight-loss options or bariatric surgery call 928 214-3737.
