Head and neck cancer support groups: stretching and movement after cancer treatment

Nov. 15, 2010

Patients and survivors, as well as families and caregivers are invited to participate in the Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare’s “Heads Up!” support group. Heads Up! is an informal head and neck cancer support group meeting 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18 at the Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare Sedona Campus, 3700 West Highway 89A.

This month’s meeting features EntireCare Physical Therapist Lisa Zublionis, P.T. During the session, Zublionis will discuss and demonstrate stretches, exercises and edema reduction techniques. Edema is the abnormal accumulation of fluid under the skin or in body cavities which can occur after surgery. Each stretch, exercise and technique that will be shared is designed to relieve tension and discomfort associated with surgeries and radiation therapies for head and neck cancers.

Heads Up! meets the fourth Thursday of each month, providing support and encouragement for those affected by head and neck cancers. For more information about Heads Up! or for other services offered at the Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare, visit CCNAH.com or call 928 204-4160.
