Laboratory and Blood Bank
 The Laboratory Department provides full-service, acute care laboratory, histology, pathology and transfusion services to inpatients and outpatients. Our team consists of board-certified pathologists, medical technologists and laboratory assistants. Laboratory services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Lab performs approximately 675,000 procedures for inpatients and 475,000 procedures for outpatients a year.
Since 80 percent of all medical diagnoses involve some type of lab testing, it is our goal to ensure the patient feels confident in the abilities of our staff and the time frame in which he or she receives the test results. Advanced technology allows for rapid turnaround of a variety of tests.
The Blood Bank stores a minimum of 225 units of blood and components at any given time.
Pathology Services
Pathology is the study and diagnosis of disease.
In the clinical laboratory, our pathologists work with laboratory technologists to ensure the availability and accuracy of laboratory testing. Throughout the hospital, our pathologists work with ancillary patient care providers and patient's physicians in the optimal utilization of laboratory testing in the diagnosis and management of disease with the analysis of blood, fluid and tissue specimens. Our American Board of Pathology certified anatomical and clinical pathologists are available for consultation around the clock.
In the anatomical pathology department, our pathologists work with an ASCP certified pathologist's assistant and with our histotechnologists in the diagnosis of disease based on gross, microscopic, chemical and immunologic examination of tissues and fluids removed from the body. The pathologists are always available for consultation and for the intra-operative frozen section examination of tissues for the immediate diagnosis and management of disease.

Histology Services
Histology is the microscopic study of diseased tissue. It is the mainstay of anatomical pathology, forming the basis for the diagnosis of cancer and other diseases. In the histology laboratory our ASCP-certified histotechnologists prepare cytologic and histologic slides for pathologic examination. Frozen section slides for immediate intra-operative consultation and special studies such as immunoperoxidase preparations are available on-site.
