Laboratory and Blood Bank
 The Laboratory Department provides full-service, acute care laboratory, histology, pathology and transfusion services to inpatients and outpatients. Our team consists of board-certified pathologists, medical technologists and laboratory assistants. Laboratory services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Lab performs approximately 675,000 procedures for inpatients and 475,000 procedures for outpatients a year.
Since 80 percent of all medical diagnoses involve some type of lab testing, it is our goal to ensure the patient feels confident in the abilities of our staff and the time frame in which he or she receives the test results. Advanced technology allows for rapid turnaround of a variety of tests.
The Blood Bank stores a minimum of 225 units of blood and components at any given time.
Pathology Services
- Pathology (the study of disease processes with the goal of understanding their nature and causes) consultations are available around the clock
- A pathologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and classification of diseases by laboratory methods
Laboratory Services
- Routine testing turnaround time in four hours, ASAP in two hours, and STAT testing in one hour or less
- Instrumentation accommodates small pediatric and geriatric samples
Histology Services
Histology (the study of the structure of tissues) and cytology (the study of the structure and function of cells as individual units) examinations are performed under the guidance of board-certified pathologists. Special stains including immunohistochemistry are performed on site.
Transfusion Services
- Blood Components for Inpatient and Outpatient transfusions
- Autologous (patient donates his or her own blood before a procedure) and directed donor blood donations
Professional Care
- Board-certified pathologists in anatomic, pathology, clinical pathology and hematopatholgy
- Certified medical laboratory scientists
- ASCP-certified histotechnicians
- Nationally certified phlebotomists
