Special Care Nursery

FMC's Special Care Nursery (SCN) is certified as a Level II Enhanced Perinatal Center by the Arizona Perinatal Trust, and provides care for newborns delivered from 28-weeks gestation and older.
The interdisciplinary team works together to provide high-quality healthcare with a caring, personal touch, and a neuro-developmental follow-up clinic.
Our team includes:
- Obstetricians
- Maternal fetal specialist
- Neonatologist
- Pediatric cardiologist
- Registered nurses
- Pediatric and family practice physicians
- Lactation counselor
- New parent support coordinator
- Care coordinators
- Perinatal social worker
- Development specialists
The nursery is located on the first floor of the Women and Infants’ Center.
The nursery offers the following services and amenities:
- Eighteen continuing care nursery beds
- Four-bed neighborhoods, providing privacy with reduced noise levels
- Continuing focus on developmentally sensitive care
- Three family rooms where qualified parents can spend the night
- Sibling playroom adjacent to the family waiting room
- Extended transition room for babies requiring more time to adjust to the external environment
- Neonatal nurse practitioner on site, 24-hours a day
- State-of-the-art monitoring system
- Basic radiology services available within the department
- Special entrance to the new building
